[He tucks his phone away and heads for the emergency room, sick with fear that David's never going to talk to him again.]

[David, of course, had no such fear. It would make his Colorado visit awkward, wouldn't it, if he and his boyfriend weren't talking to each other the whole time. Unless they'd taken up miming.

As for David, he descended from his room to go await his own face off with the boss.]

[While Kyle waits to have his hand x-rayed, David is going to find himself visited by one rather annoyed Jean-Paul Beaubier... annoyedin part because he understands entirely TOO well the impulse to punch out anyone who threatens his loved ones. It is, after all, what he always does.

So while he'd been livid that their mission had nearly been compromised, he also couldn't help but see something familiar in the sad little redhead sitting there with a busted hand.

David's not in trouble. He, after all, didn't do anything. Jean-Paul really just wants to talk to him about the realities of dating a human.]

[David's good at being patient, at not getting into a southing match that doesn't start with someone shouting at him. He's not flawless. He just sits, listens, and when Jean-Paul runs himself out of words, he patiently reminds Jean-Paul that until recently he was human and dating a mutant, that he knew more than enough about racism of all walks, and to direct his annoyance at Trevor, because it was Trevor and not Kyle that had set it all in motion. Trevor who had gotten Kyle to that location. Kyle? He was just protecting someone he loved, and wasn't that what they all did?

Didn't even wait for a response, just rose and walked off. He didn't care that his boyfriend was human. Why should he? Love was love and that's all he cared about. And with these feelings noted, he went to his room to get his phone out and text his boyfriend.]

I am free of the lecture. Boiled down to you shouldn't get involved in the violent part of our work, for a few reasons. Apparently there was concern the guy was part of a cell, and your actions have delayed the chances that Rachel would normally have had to get what they needed to know out of his mind. It will get fixed up. And I'm going to look into a... more securely placed portal that's closer for future visiting. It's not always easy to do, but there are arguments to be made.

[David will, the following day, receive one of Jean-Paul's infamous non-apology-apologies after his Kyle hears the whole story and tells him all about how Logan basically tried to warn him off of their marriage.]
