"I was pretty confident you'd like it." When David slowed, Kyle slid off of his back and stood, looking at David with a soft smile.

"I just... wanted to do something special for you."

"This is really special," David promised, smiling as he grabs Kyle's hand and pulls him toward the door of the restaurant. "I've never done this before."

[kyley_b]

"Me neither," Kyle says, pulled along and delighted. The restaurant is busy and cheerful, filled with music and the scent of deep fry.

"I'm so trying alligator."

"You really should. I want a bite," David asked as he moves to grab a menu. "Remy's memory says this place is great for lunches. And not too expensive. I want to try something like a dry rub."

Kyle snickers. "I'll give you a dry rub," he mutters.

The place is the sort where you order at the counter and then find a seat. The gentleman behind the counter is huge and jovial and calls Kyle 'red' and David 'brother.' The table they sit at is yellow formica, and the seats are hard. Kyle takes David's hand when they sit.

You're bad. David's face says 'you're horrible'. But he moves on to the order and smiles, talking with an accent that is all creole when he orders. When it's over he's happy to move with Kyle, settlign into a seat and leaning against him.

"Hey. You know I've never been to N'or'lins?"

He says it like a native.

"Then how are you doing that?" Kyle asks, fascinated. "Because of your friend from here?"

"Remy," David confirms with a nod. "I can replicate just about any accent actually. It's one thing I get from everyone I meet. I do really good impressions."

At least of accents.

[kyley_b]

"Please never do my mom," he requests before squeezing David's hand.

"I'm so lucky to have you, dude. You know I know that, right? That i know how good you are?"

"I don't want to do your mom. In any sense," David promised, shaking his head.

Lucky? Woah. David stares at Kyle.

"Wrong. I'm the lucky one."

[kyley_b]

Kyle's brain shorts out for a second. "...thanks. Ew."

Kyle smiles. "Look, just... don't argue for a second, this is important. David. You are so good. You're fiercely intelligent, you're kind, you're funny, and you're beautiful. Please know that you deserve the best."

"The more you say those things, the more I believe them. But I'm still the lucky one."

He leans over and gives Kyle a soft, sweet kiss.

"Because before you, I don't think I ever felt loved."

[kyley_b]

"Good. I need you to believe them."

There's a vindictive part of Kyle that wants to vrow about that. David feels loved. Nobody else gave him that feeling. Just him, Kyle Broflovski. He somehow was enough.

"You are loved. Not just by me, either."

"Then I will," he says, smiling with a shake of his head. And look, food was coming over to them.

But he smiled, looking at Kyle with deep fondness.

"But being loved by you is different."

[kyley_b]

Kyle laughs as he lets go of David's hands. "Yeah. My love is 'different' alright," he chuckles.

The food tastes as amazing as it smells. Alligator, it turns out, is a bit like fish and a bit like chicken and mostly just delicious.

"Dude. You gotta thank your buddy, this is awesome."

Idiot. David giggles, delighted at the statement. Maybe he's a bit giddy today.

"I don't tend to. It's awkward, to thank people for things you took from their head."

[kyley_b]

Who could blame him? It's a special day.

"Oh, yeah, I guess so." He sips his water. "Man. It's so chill here. The vibe, I mean."

It really is. But any day they are together is special.

"That's how this place works. They know the world will keep going, and them with it. So they relax."

[kyley_b]

Kyle nods around his sandwich. "We should try that. Relaxing, I mean," he says after swallowing.

"This isn't relaxing?" David asks between bites of his own sandwich.

[kyley_b]

"Well, YES. But I mean in general, in our regular lives." He lifts an eyebrow. "We both tend to be a little tightly wound, dude."

[helpdesk_hero]

"School is definitely stressful."

ANd he knows he's a lot worse than that. Life and death situations were just horrible.

[kyley_b]

"Mmhmm. Maybe the Californian climate will mellow me the fuck out come fall." Because he's determined about this plan.

[helpdesk_hero]

"I've never known it to mellow, unless you're going to take up surfing. I could teach you."

He's just so excited about this.

"Have you started the application and transfer request?"

[kyley_b]

Kyle nods, finishing the business of demolishing his sandwich. "I sure have. As soon as I know I'm in? I'm packing my bags.

"And I'd love for you to teach me."
