"Your life is so weird." Says the guy who has seen God with his own two eyes.

It's nearly three AM, the party still going, when Kyle starts flagging. "Think I might pass out," he tells his boyfriend.

"Says the guy whose home town got attacked by a giant robot while i was visiting," David teased.

The dancing was wonderful, but even David could see his boyfriend just about sagging.

"Piggy ride to the hotel?"

"Pfft, it wasn't that giant, we've had bigger."

Kyle laughs. "That's a hell of a long way, dude, we took a cab! But if you're game we can see how far you get."

"Fine, you're right," David laughs. "I'll call a cab and then put you to bed."

[kyley_b]

He leans close, lips by David's ear.

"Yeah, you better put me to bed."

[helpdesk_hero]

"Do you even have the energy?" David laughs. It seems so impossible. But he'll do what is asked if it's wanted. Because he would absolutely want it too.

[kyley_b]

"It's your birthday, David. I can summon the strength to do whatever you want me to."

[helpdesk_hero]

"And if all I want is to lay in your arms and sleep late?" David asks, smiling.

[kyley_b]

"Then that's what you get."

He kisses him softly, unaware of anybody else in the moment.

"I want to make you happy."

[helpdesk_hero]

"You already do," David answers, guiding his boyfriend out of the club.

Outside, waiting to flag a cab in between the night and the dawn, Kyle takes David's hand.

He's managed to mostly put Tommy's words out of his head, but they return now.

"David? You're really special. I know how lucky I am to have you."

What? Where was that coming from? David looks at Kyle and smiles so soft at him.

"I'm lucky to have you too," David answers, his voice so happy, so fond. "I adore you."

Kyle nods, throat too tight to speak. He wants to say so much, but it's all just a variation on 'I love you, let me show you how much I love you, please don't ever go.'

He realises with shock as he waves at a taxi that David is his first real love. No matter what happens, that will always be a fact. He's not David's - of that he's quite sure, and he thinks of Tommy again with his perfect looks and his still-the-best-in-bed status - but that's okay.

He gets the door for David like a gentleman and then climbs in after him, still silent.

David, once they're settled in the car, leans against Kyle, smiling and happy. Maybe Kyle isn't his first love, but does that make how he feels any less true? Any less powerful?

"Thank you, Kyle. You really did give me the best birthday I've ever had. I'm never going to forget this."

Kyle turns to kiss David's head. "Good.

"...still owe your ex some thanks. I'll text him tomorrow."

[helpdesk_hero]

"Text him when you're not in my company," David dismisses. "Before that, bed. And telling me if there is anything I can do to get you to class tomorrow."

[kyley_b]

"I will." He takes David's hand in his.

"Don't worry about me, I've taken care of it."

[helpdesk_hero]

"Alright," David says. "Just tell me whether I need you up early in the morning."

Of course that makes sense, right?

[kyley_b]

"We can sleep in," he promises. "Well. Until like, ten-thirty, checkout is at eleven."

By the time they reach the hotel, Kyle is practically falling asleep. Once they're inside he gets out of his clothes and goes to brush his teeth before collapsing onto the bed.

David takes a little more time to prepare himself and then he's settling into bed, pulling Kyle against him.

"Rest well, love. You've earned it."

[kyley_b]

"I can stay up." No he can't. He falls asleep in David's arms quickly.

[helpdesk_hero]

Well, that's all David needed. He smiled and was soon nodding off himself, his boyfriend wrapped up in his arms. There was no way the day could have been better.
