Prince Among Men

Frankly, he hadn't expected to get this chance. At all. Didn't matter that he was the top of his class. That he learned things mostly instantly. Sure there was a lot of reasons that this shouldn't have happened. Yet here he was, two days in to an internship at the Genoshan royal palace. And David's been moving through things carefully, juggling a large pile of folders and binders. A lot of stuff went on behind the scenes he'd learned, working as he did under a minister of commerce and trade.

And as an intern his main jobs seemed, at least for these first few days, carrying things back and forth and fetching coffee. He'd networked with someone who did the internship the year before and learned that yeah, it sucked the first few days, but then you started doing cool stuff, so he had his fingers crossed.

Okay, not actually, he was too busy moving quickly through the halls, trying not to trip and drop a massive pile of reports that he was certain had only been given to him because hazing the new guy who had already turned out to be smarter than half of the undersecretaries. Oops.

The big problem, of course, is taking a corner too quick. It wasn't that he meant to run into someone, but there it was happening anyway.

He's literally just carrying documents from one room to another. Clearly not that much of a thing he's doing.

"Come with me," he says after a moment. "I mean, it might teach you something in case you need to rule. And even to support your brother."

Oh god, his heart is racing. This is worse. This isn't smart.

The prince smiles a little too brightly. It's not really justified, given he's just...job shadowing an intern, but he's a damn cute intern. And what does he ever get the chance to do something like this?

"You're sure?"

"I... yeah," David agrees. "But you're going to be bored. Please don't blame me."

Balancing his stack of files in one hand, William crosses his fingers in an 'x' over his heart in promise, and gives a shy laugh. "I won't, I promise. And if anyone says anything, I'll take the blame."

"But... well, I've got, like, an hour until lunch," and he doesn't think the guy is going to put up with him that long anyway.

"All right," The Prince doesn't seem bothered or concerned, nodding easily. "That should give me plenty of time to see what you get up to, right?"

"You're not... what I expected."

David sighs and tilts his head toward a door. "We're through there then."

"...Is that good or bad?" he asks uncertainly, looking a little hesitant then. Still, he follows after David, and hopes his presence won't cause too much of an upset.

"I don't know at all," David admits, his expression soft. "But you seem a bit more... approachable than I expected. Would you get the door?"

That earns a curious laugh, and the Prince looks a little bashful, but nods and holds open the door for him. It's the sort of action his grandfather probably would frown over, but William doesn't see the problem.

"After you," he welcomes. Obviously, because he has no idea where he's going without following after David.

Oh dear lord, he's so nice. David blushes, not sure how to deal with it. But he heads through the door and down the hall to the office.

"I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to go after you."

"I won't tell if you don't," he teases softly, following after him, "Besides, I can't very when lead where I've never been, can I?"

would you mind if my next tag is a skip to David getting his lunch break?

"Someone will notice," David counters, because there is still another door to get into the specific office suite he is needed in. "I'm so getting fired for this."

"No one's firing you on my watch, David," the Prince assures almost fondly. Not for this at least.

"You don't even seem to be wearing a watch," David comments, and then he's heading through another door. His task here is simple. Which means he's busy packing things into filing cabinets. Then there was taking other reports back to another room and laying them out on a table. Let's not forget making coffee. Only then does David head back to the office for the department. And while his boss's mouth opens to shout at David for taking so long, it snapped back shut when they saw Billy. David, by then, had softened up around the prince a bit, even didn't ALWAYS call him 'Your Highness'. And then it's time for lunch.

David packs things back up and he heads out of the office, not expecting the Prince to keep following him as he heads out, fluttering through his wallet to try and see how much he has left in his voucher for the week. Simple lunch it is.

It's not glamours, by any means, but William quite enjoys seeing how the office works, even helping out occasionally, though that's mostly just in carrying or offering an extra set of hands.

And naturally, as David is the main attraction in all this, he moves to follow after him still as he leaves, not really thinking anything of it. "What now?" he asks.

David was so certain the Prince was done with him that he jumps when the question comes. Jumps and almost yelps in shock. Manages to hold it in, though, as he turns to regard the Prince.

"W-what? I. It's lunch. Aren't you going back?"

"Oh, uh-" The prince looks briefly flustered, and looks back behind him with an uncertain nod, "Yes, I...I should probably let you- ah..." he looks embarrassed then, and trails off, nodding again and taking a step back, "Thank for, ah...humoring me."

"You're a prince. EVeryone will humor you," David sighs. But then he winces because WOW what did he just say? Just stupid. "I mean, I work again after an hour. But I need to get food."

William ducks his head, unsure if that's a particularly good thing. His position makes it rather difficult for anyone to refuse him, but he doesn't want David to simply be putting up with him because he has to.

"I won't impose-" he promises, nodding to try and give David his leave.

Of course it would be imposing. If Billy invites himself it's imposing. But...

"Maybe you'd, uh... want to join me? For lunch?"

Oh. William's whole face brightens, and he nods a little too quickly. Damn. No. Too over eager.

He tries to reign it back.

"I'd like that. If...it wouldn't be too awkward for you."

"I can't pay for your lunch," David shrugs as he starts down the hall again, expecting William to follow along.

Pay. Right. William flushes a little and follows along after him as he tries to work out how he's going to get around that one. He doesn't typically carry money. But he can magic some from their account. Or...would it be too strange to just abstain? Probably.

"I can manage."

"Well then by all means. Tag along. Don't, uh, just don't look at me weird for what I get."

Because he can probably easily afford a smalls sandwich.

"Don't you, like, have a chef so can cook for you or something?"
