My bestie's grandad. He's, uh, pretty important to the Fae. Though he, like, lied about all that for the longest time.
Anyway, his powers revolve around a kind of blood magic and he's several thousand years old so he knows a lot about that kinda stuff. And it turns out humans can learn some of it. So he taught me what I could use. And everything else I learned from books I borrowed from his stash.
[ Kenzi actually looks a little surprised by his question that she survived contact with the Fae. Everyone she brings them up to they never ask if the Fae are dangerous as if they think she means little winged creatures that are about as harmful as Tinkerbell. ]
Yeah. [ A soft chuckle. ] Don't get me wrong, the Fae are plenty dangerous back home but they're, like... [ She trails off as she thinks about how best to describe the Fae. ]
So, Lauren -- she's a doctor and like really into science and Fae biology and stuff -- has this theory that the Fae are an evolutionary branch of humanity from, like, ages ago. Kind of like mutants in your world. The term Fae is just kind of a catch-all for them as they can be anything from vampires to succubi.
Most humans don't know they exist since they usually don't look any different from humans.
I'm sure there's some Fae with that kind of power. [ Trick was one. He'd used his blood to literally write a man out of existence because he upset him. ]
A lot of those stories hold some truth to them for the Fae of my world. Though a lot of it is lies they let humans believe so they can keep themselves hidden. It humans don't know they're there it's easier for them to feed.
[ Kenzi sucks in a breath. Explaining the Fae always takes a lot more than just a handful of words. ]
Yeah. They can feed on other Fae but they usually prefer humans. And it's usually stuff like chi and emotions. But there are vampires and they need blood and some Fae do eat human flesh.
The Light don't usually kill their feeds, they go about getting what they need from funeral homes and hospitals and stuff like that. The Dark on the other hand...
[ There is so much more she's not getting into, but there's no reason to bring it up unprompted. ]
Mostly, yeah. They keep to the number one rule about not exposing the Fae but also don't care if they hurt or kill humans. I mean, the Light also don't seem to care that much about humans but they at least make an attempt not to kill us.
So we're effectively a side thought, if even that much. I suppose that is fair. Humans might try and use them, or hurt them. Which is hardly worthwhile to them
For those that aren't in the know. Those, like me, are nothing more than pets.
But, yeah, the whole reason they stay a secret is because they're afraid of humans would do to them. And, honestly, I can't blame them. [ She's seen what humans will do, murder them, experiment on them, try to turn themselves into Fae... Though she's guilty of that last one herself. She tried to convince herself it was to stay safe but she was jealous. ]
[ Depends on if his mind is in the gutter or not. Because, sure, there's probably some Fae that plays with their humans that way, but most just keep them around for entertainment, feeding, and doing their bidding. Pet is really just a nice way of saying servant. ]
[ Kenzi remains quiet, gaze drifting away from David as she feels that familiar guilt crawl up from her stomach and squeeze at her chest. When she looks back at him there's a sardonic smile on her lips. ]

1/1/20 02:00 (UTC)Fae are real where you are? And you survived meeting one? Our legends back home would suggest it isn’t really possible.

1/1/20 04:24 (UTC)The thing is that I’m my world stories of true fae are terrifying. Don’t give a Fae your name or you will be lost forever.
