He'll delay processing it for a time, using Billy as a security blanket. But he will face it. A little heart break over a guy that is still thinking about whether or not he wants to sign on to date Loki is nowhere near the same level of disaster as guilt was.

[He sounds completely calm in the face of all of this. No, he doesn't see this going too far in the wrong way, because the construct in the end is of Billy. And if there is one thing he trusts, it's Billy's ability to convince Loki to do the right thing.]

And, if it doesn't let up in about a week or so, tactics can be changed. For now, think of this as sort of like a high schooler pining after a crush and listening to endless hours of questionable quality music.

[ It surprises him, briefly, that this is the take. Then again, Loki didn't build David a bar in the time he was hiding away mourning losses. Maybe Stephen has the benefit of more context. ]

This isn't about a crush. He subconsciously pushed all of his magic into an external construct of someone he lost, and he took the decision to keep it. The perceived rejection may have been a trigger, but it isn't the wound.

[ Stephen knows from experience what it is to lose one's magic. Under ordinary circumstances, there's nothing he wouldn't do to get it back, and he can only imagine that being without it is even more significant for the likes of Loki. If this were just about one boy Loki's yet to make anything more than a friend of, Billy would be gone by now. ]

He needs help, soon, whether or not he lets go of Billy of his own accord.

[And yet David has far more experience with the constructs than Stephen does, and so he's definitely more relaxed about this.]

I respect that your concern is about he magic, but frankly, I think you should take a deep breath and perhaps a glass of wine. You're not the one that spent months traveling dimensions with him while he was in this very state. And I think you fail to account for all that Loki's heart is aching for right now. All the the things he has lost.

This will pass, and right now, he's getting the help he needs, though not in a way you approve of. Give him time, and if it does not, then you can raise your alarm. The best course of handling it will most likely be reaching out to Angela, I think she might be better pressed to understand the position he's in than we mortals would, and so she might better help him process his loneliness and convince him to take his magic back.

But he will take his magic back. He's a god of magic, he won't suffer himself to be sundered from it for too long. I don't believe his nature would allow it.

We're talking at cross purposes. My concern isn't his magic, it's his mental state, precisely because of all he's lost. Like I said, the rejection's the trigger, not the wound.

I know he'll take his magic back. The construct himself knows he'll take his magic back. I'm not advocating for the premature removal of the construct, I'm sure there's some merit to the comfort and counsel of your own magic made flesh and familiar friend. But we as the friends who will remain need to find ways to support him through it too.

Angela's already informed. She'll be visiting him soon.

I have a bit more faith in his mental state than you do I fear. And he hasn't been rejected, he's been asked to wait while someone thinks.

[He sighs, and on his side he's shaking his head.]

Believe me when I say I'm doing my best to support him from the other side of the issue, which involves conversation with both him, and the young man currently holding his favor.

Do not doubt me when I say I want to see him happy. I am concerned, but less so than you because I have hope.

[ Stares into the abyss. How many times can he say 'the crush isn't the problem'... ]

Glad as I am for your hope, and I do hope the situation works out well, whether or not he ends up with a date won't resolve the underlying problem.

I'm glad to hear you're helping him through it. I'll leave you to it.

[ David's busy playing support in the way he deems appropriate, and he's known Loki longer than Stephen has. If he thinks what he's doing will help, good, Stephen's not going to fight him on it any further. ]

[That's for the best, because David gets the core of the wound. And that core is feeling unloved and unlovable. Loki's basically told him that. And there is nothing the rest of them can do to solve how Loki feels about wanting to be loved in that manner.]
